They have two sons, Ken who is married to Heather and Jason who is involved in the film industry. Dennis earned his Master of Divinity degree at Princeton Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry degree at San Francisco Theological Seminary. He has served churches in Knoxville, TN, San Diego, CA, El Dorado, AR, and Idaho Falls, ID. Dr. Jack Springer Pastor EmeritusDr. Springer served as Pastor and Head of Staff at First Pres from September 1975 to March, 1990.
He and his wife Judy love living on the Central Coast, spending time on the golf course being involved in the life grandson, Jason. Rev. Luanne Griguoli Minister of Outreach Luanne was born and raised in Glendale, CA and was baptized and ordained as Minister of the Word and Sacrament at Grandview Presbyterian Church. After graduating from UCSB, marrying her husband Fabrizio, having two sons, and serving as Elder and Intern at La Canada Presbyterian Church, she graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary.
Her first call was as Pastor of South Park Presbyterian Church in Fairplay, Colorado. She retired after twelve years as Pastor of Nipomo Presbyterian Church during which time she served as Moderator of the Presbytery. She thanks God for First Presbyterian SLO where she has worshiped since 2008. She enjoys everything Italian, especially her husband and her grandchildren. Her heart is in Opening Doors for Interfaith Understanding.
Rev. Curtis Illingworth Minister of Preaching Rev. Jim Nielsen Minister of Missional Outreach Jim was born and raised in San Luis Obispo. He was baptized, confirmed, married and ordained at FPCSLO. He received a B.S. degree in Engineering from Cal Poly in 1958, a M.Div. degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1963 and a M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology from New Mexico State University.
He has served as Associate Pastor at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church in Caldwell, ID (1963-66), as Campus Minister at New Mexico State University (1966-72), on the faculty and counseling staff at New Mexico Highlands University (1972-76) and as Director of the Common Ministry at Washington State University (1976-99). 205) Children’s Education Director & Interim Coordinator of Youth MinistryMiss Jen is committed to making First Pres. a safe, loving and nurturing space for children and youth and their families. She has been a part of First Pres. most of her life and is very loyal to the Church and Church Family. She works hard along with the Christian Education Committee to offer the children and youth activities that are current and will help guide them through their journey and faith development.

Administrative Staff Tracy Whittemore (EXT. 207) Church AdministratorTracy was born and raised in San Luis Obispo County, and has lived here her entire life. She attended Cal Poly University where she studied Music and Speech. She has been married for 27 years, and has two married daughters. Her passions are singing, making jewelry and garage sale-ing.
Mia Purdin (EXT. 200) Communications AdministratorMia was born and raised in Santa Maria, and after a three year stint in SLO she’s back living in her hometown. She and her handsome husband Andrew are the proud parents of Gabriel, who was born in March 2012. She attended Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, studying Music and Worship Arts. Besides music, she loves cooking, reading, traveling, very strong coffee, and finding any excuse to shop at Target.
Kenneth Hand (EXT. 215) Office Assistant Kenneth Hand is a native to the San Luis Obispo area. His family has lived here since the 1940s. He attended California Baptist University, majoring in Vocal Performance with a concentration in Church Music and a minor in Biblical Studies. After a year, he moved back home to help take care of his grandparents and pursue a different path of education. He is currently studying to become a Medical Biller and Coder and also a Music Librarian.
Jenifer Gordon-Rabenaldt (EXT. 205) Wedding Coordinator & Memorial CoordinatorJenifer herself was married at First Pres. She is passionate about making sure this special day in the lives of the Bride & Groom and their families is everything they dreamed it would be. It is with great joy that she guides couples through this process. Music Staff Interim Director of Music Bio coming soon! Praise Choir Director Dale Wolff has been directing the Praise Singers on a volunteer basis since 1989.
His other musical endeavors include singing with the Vocal Arts Ensemble and the “Bald Spots” doo-wop group, and occasionally writing songs. He is a retired Ph.D. psychologist and former Mental Health Director for the County. He and his wife Kathy have three grown sons and several grandkids. His other activities include Rotary, travel, writing, photography, and golf. Praise Singers PianistLinda feels blessed to be able to worship God through playing the piano at First Pres.
During the week, Linda teaches piano lessons. The remainder of her time is dedicated to her church, her family and friends, and her favorite hobbies, gardening and reading. Alison LewisOrganistAlison Lewis comes to us from Escondido, but the majority of her years have been in New York and the Midwest. She is the mother of four children. She “fell” for the organ as an adult and new Christian, when she realized how organs help us sing, and the riches of worship that grow out of our history, even as it can be made made new-and-revised.
Her training has come from university teachers in the Midwest, where she completed her American Guild of Organists Colleague Certificate through Douglas Reed at the University of Evansville, and the Bishop’s Diploma in Church Music in Indianapolis. She also enjoyed participating in recitals, and an organ tour of France. Her musical identity includes children: from school music at all levels, being alongside two of her own children who pursued strings long-term; and continuing to teach, hopefully also in San Luis Obispo.
